A Day in the Life at The Cosy Cottage Soap Company
Ever wondered what goes on behind the soapy scenes here at The Cosy Cottage Soap Company? From making soaps to a stop at our favourite sandwich shop, wonder no more as we take you with us on a typical day here at HQ.
9am: Packaging orders
We kickstart each day by packing up the orders from the previous day. Here is a photo of the lovely Kate checking off all the orders in the Cosy Cottage Office. Every single order is beautifully gift wrapped making them the perfect present. Visit the online store here.
10am: To the post office!
After packing all the orders we take the parcels down to the local Post Office. The staff are so friendly and we now stock our additive-free products in their store. Heslington sits on the outskirts of York and is just a 5 minute walk away from our office and lab at the York Science Park. You can't keep us away from it; we will be back here at lunchtime.
11am: Making creams and balms
Next we set about making some of our balms and creams. Here is a shot from a few weeks ago pouring the Mango Butter and Lemon Foot Balm into their moulds. These are then left to set before being shipped off to our customers across the world.
12pm: Our favourite sandwich shop, Browns
Lunchtime means we are off back to Heslington. This time it's to visit a local gem, Browns. The sign outside their door reads "BROWNS FOR PROBABLY THE BEST SANDWICH IN THE WORLD" and they can't be too far wrong. We definitely recommend it (just leave some sandwiches for us)!
1pm: Wholesale meetings and delivering stock
Next up we are meeting new retailers and delivering fresh stock to our repeat wholesalers. Our list of retailers is ever-growing with our latest addition being the National Trust properties Nunnington Hall and Nostell Priory.
2pm: Soaps, glorious soaps
Back in the office and Clara's background in chemistry comes into play making and cutting soaps. After being cut, the soaps are left to solidify fully before we are able to move onto the next stage of their production which is...
4pm: Lets get wrapping
We are fortunate to have an excellent team who assemble the packaging of each item. All of this packaging is now recyclable and our labels are also printed on recycled paper! Beautiful AND ethical. Here are some images of some our fabulous team, Sarah, Kate and Clara, beavering away to create the beautiful finished products.
5pm: Packing up for the markets
If we have a fair coming up the next day (which we have a lot at the moment - see here for our full list of markets), we pack up all the newly packaged items, load the car up and ferry our products over to the location. No need for a gym membership when we are lifting all these!
6pm: Home time
Time to head home and put our feet up ready for the same again tomorrow. The Cosy Cottage Soap Company was originally established in the kitchen of Clara's real life Cosy Cottage in the Howardian Hills before we expanded onto the Science Park. This image is actually taken early in the morning but you get a sense of the real beauty offered in the landscapes surrounding the Cosy Cottage. Check out this blog to see what founder and CEO Clara gets up to here in her free time.
We hope you enjoyed accompanying us on a typical day at Cosy Cottage HQ, check back next week for a new blog.
