Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Treatment Overview
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a specialised massage technique, performed by a specially trained and qualified practitioner which uses gentle hand movements to move lymphatic fluid away from congested areas to areas which will enable expulsion from the body. The sequences used are adapted to meet individual clients' needs, body type and conditions.
Treatment Benefits
Reduced swelling - MLD can help reduce swelling in the body, especially in the arms or legs, where fluid build-up, known as oedema can occur. Please note that oedema is not the same a lymphoedema for which the treatment is not appropriate.
Improved immune system - MLD can help support the immune system by helping the lymph nodes get rid of toxins. It's effective after a virus or illness and helps to promote healing by removing waste products.
Pain relief - MLD can help reduce pain, especially after an injury.
Stress management - MLD can help reduce stress by increasing alpha waves, which are associated with relaxation, and decreasing beta waves, which are associated with mental stimulation.
Improved healing - MLD can help promote healing by removing waste products from the site of an injury.
Improved symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis - MLD can help ease symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, such as tissue swelling and joint pain. MLD can also help fibromyalgia sufferers and Carole, our practitioner has had particular success with this condition.
